Francis Marion

Filed under: General, Photography - Susan M @ 3:29 am

This is my great-grandfather. I don’t know much about him. Except for this:

  • He got married when he was 31
  • He had 8 children
  • He was born April 8, 1859
  • He died when he was 86 years old
  • If my dates are correct, he was 49 years old when my grandfather, his 7th child, was born
  • He almost had a unibrow
  • His first and middle names were Francis Marion, so he was named after a Revolutionary War hero
  • He and his wife divorced and she remarried
  • According to my father, he wasn’t a very nice person
  • He had quite a moustache

I think that’s about all I know about him. It’s interesting to see pictures of ancestors you’ve never met. He doesn’t look anything like anyone in my family, except maybe a little bit like my grandpa.

Here’s a picture where he’s younger:

We have a picture of his grave. He was buried in Lamara, Co.. We went there on one of our trips around the US. Dad cleaned up the grave site. It was a very pretty place.I’ll try and find the pictures.

  5. I stumbled upon your page when doing a google search for Francis Marion - because he is my great grandfather too! I’m not sure, but I think he was my grandfather’s grandfather. Thought I’d leave a comment since we have a piece of history in common. :)
