My brother posted this link to Nina Hagen on David Letterman on his blog. It was a bit mind-boggling for me. We must’ve had it recorded as teens because I remembered every word she said. Especially the part where she’s trying to explain that hair extensions are burned on, but all she can say is, “Fire….fire…”
I don’t remember Vicious Pink, but I looked them up, and the singer was Josephine Warden.
I’m not positive but I think Nina predates Alien Sex Fiend. My brother would probably know for sure. Just such a trip that an East German opera singer would turn into Nina Hagen.
Probably. ASF is from the early-mid eighties. People are strange. It’s fun to figure out personalities and the motives behind what makes people do the things they do, such as NH. East Germany was a very repressed communist country in NH’s day, so probably her getting a taste of freedom on the outside got a little heady for her. Kind of like kids going to college and burning out with drugs and weird lifestyles because their parents aren’t there to control their life for them. Maybe? Just an idea. Vicious Pink was a good eighties cover band that played alot in the clubs. I thought they were really good, and if you can find anything from them, grab it because you could make some money on Ebay if you didn’t like it. Speaking of weird freak-out personalities, Gibby Haynes has an MBA from UT-Austin. I read an interview where he said he decided to be in a band because he couldn’t imagine sitting in an office for the rest of his life. Go figure…
i suspect nina predates alien sex fiend, but i’m not sure as i never was a big fan of asf. i suspect that nina was doing stuff in the 70s. i’m not sure when she came to the west or how she got here. the story i heard was that she was too weird for the east so they kicked her out. but that sounds like pr to me…
She was the Germany’s answer to Alien Sex Fiend. Who sang on Vicious Pink?
