I’m taking requests.

Filed under: General, Music - Susan M @ 9:50 pm

I have a lot of music on my hard drive. A ridiculous amount, really. I have, roughly, about 17, 540 songs.

Is there any song you want to hear? If I don’t have the song, I probably at least have something by the same band. I’ll post it to the radio.blog.

This reminds me of this music web forum I used to hang out on. I was always talking about my crazy family. I collect stories about people, I guess. I always had a crazy story to tell in relation to any topic anyone posted on. Once someone commented on that and tried to stump me. They chose the random topic of dead fish.

So I told the story about the tropical fish store my brother and I used to walk to when we were kids. He had a big, 30-gallon fish tank with a bunch of convict fish in them. We used to love to go to the fish store, and it was really far away. A couple mile walk. Then one day we found out it had burned down. Arson.

I always imagined all those beautiful fish being boiled alive in their fishtanks.

So yeah. Try to stump me if you want. Or request a song. It’s all good.

[EDIT:] No requests? I’m gonna post 5 random songs then. I skimmed through iTunes on random to get these.

VALIS - Head Full of Pills
One of my favorite Seattle local bands, my friend Adrian on bass. Van Conner of the Screaming Trees on guitar/vocals.

Spiritualized - No God, Only Religion
One of my favorite instrumentals. So good.

Madness - Tomorrow’s Dream
Love love love.

Jackson Browne - The Barricades of Heaven
One of my favorite songs of all time. No lie.

Che - Blue Demon
I think this is rare these days. Che is Brant Bjork (drummer of Kyuss and Fu Manchu), Alfredo Hernandex (another drummer from Kyuss) and I think one other guy. Very laid back desert groove.

  3. That should be Topics. I don’t actually expect you to have a story about Gladiators and Peru (although I don’t expect you to have a story about either, really).

  4. Sorry Gabby, I don’t have any of those bands. Well I think I have some Black Tape For a Blue Girl on a mix someone made me, but I don’t have it on my hard drive.

I never ripped Franz Ferdinand to my hard drive, but I have a live mp3 I’ll post. And a Damien Rice song.

I’m pretty tired and braindead right now, and nothing about Peru or gladiators is coming to mind. I could swear I had a Peru story though.

But I do have a skinny dipping story. When my husband was a teen he was really wild (a Bishop’s son, of course). He and his friend Dave (who just spent the night at our house Wed night to go surfing yesterday morning) used to go skinny dipping at night…in water towers!

He said it was the scariest thing, pitch black inside, and they’d have to jump into that big black space.

Yes, they’re both lucky to be alive in their 30’s.

Here they are a few months ago at the beach.

  5. Oh I have a Mayan ruins story too. Later.

  6. I don’t know that I could ever go skinny dipping…especially in water towers!

  7. Actually, now that I think about it, he probably wasn’t naked. Makes a good story either way. :)

  8. oooh! This is a hard one… “Ridin’ the Rails” by k.d.lang, from the “Dick Tracy” soundtrack… weird request by way cool vocals.

topic: peacock, preferably an albino peacock

  9. I’m not big on soundtracks so I don’t have that song. I’ll post another KD Lang song later today though.

OK about the Mayan ruins–maybe I’m thinking Aztec. But my son’s YM leader was talking about taking all the young men to Mexico to see ancient ruins if they kept up with their Book of Mormon reading assignments. He was going to fund the trip himself. Pretty cool, but it sucks how the boys in our ward get to do all this fun stuff, like surfing, firework campouts in the desert, and snowboarding, and the girls get to…sew quilts.

I doubt the trip to Mexico will fly, though. As the wife of another YM leader said, “I wouldn’t trust him (her own husband) to take my child to a foreign country!”

And as for peacocks–when I was a kid my grandparents’ neighbors had some. There was also a park they’d take us to that had them roaming around. I used to love to watch them strut their stuff. My grandparents had a couple feathers we used to play with, too.

Never seen an albino peacock, have you?

  10. I SOOO hear you about the differences in what the boys “get” to do and the girls “have” to do, it’s the leaders, not the church, but it still grinds me.

And yes! When I was in junior high our family lived way out in the county and one day this albino peacock was just sitting there on top of the barn. It took about three or four days before he got the nerve to roost elsewhere, but eventually we good actually go up to it. He made the famous call all the freaking time and showed us his feathers often. After about four months he just wasn’t there anymore. Weird, but cool.
